What We Collect and Why
We collect only what is necessary to provide our services and process donations.
Contact form submissions
We collect your name (optional), your message, and your preferred contact method. This information is used only to respond to your inquiry. It is deleted automatically after 30 days.
Donation processing
Donations processed through CanadaHelps are subject to CanadaHelps' own privacy policy. We receive a record of the donation amount and your name for tax receipt purposes. We do not store your payment card information.
Website analytics
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party tracking tools. If we use any analytics, they are privacy-respecting and do not set persistent cookies.
How Long We Keep Your Information
Contact form submissions are automatically deleted 30 days after submission. This is intentional. We do not build databases of people who have reached out to us for support.
Donation records are retained as required by CRA regulations for charitable organisations.
Confidentiality and When We Must Share Information
All information shared with our staff, by phone or in person, is held in strict confidence.
There are two situations where we are required by law to share information without your permission:
- Child protection: If we have reasonable grounds to believe that a child is being or has been abused or neglected, we are required under Alberta's Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act to report this to Alberta Children's Services.
- Immediate risk to life: If there is an immediate risk to your life or the life of another person, we may need to take action to prevent serious harm.
In both cases, we will tell you what we are doing and why. These exceptions are rare. Our default is always confidentiality.
Third-Party Services
We do not use third-party tracking or advertising services on this website.
Donations are processed through CanadaHelps. When you donate, you are also subject to CanadaHelps' privacy policy, available at canadahelps.org.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for commercial purposes.
Your Rights Under Canadian Privacy Law
Under PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you
- Request access to your personal information
- Request that we correct inaccurate information
- Request that we delete your information (subject to legal retention requirements)
To make a request, contact us at 780-827-3776 or info@gcths.ca.
